SPOTTED: OceanJet, one of the leading fast ferries in the region had a dry-run trip from Pier 1 in Cebu City to Anton's Wharf in Barangay Ibo, Lapu Lapu City last March 7, 2016.
This is one of the efforts made by the local government agencies to help solve the traffic congestion once the repair of the first Mandaue-Mactan Bridge will be in full swing.
The vessel used for the dry run, the oceanjet 11 can accommodate 100 - 200 people. Cebu Coast Guard Station Commander Agapito Bibat was quoted to have said that the proposed fare is at PHP 80.00 but is still subject for approval by MARINA. Personally, this is a painful investment from someone especially those who are working with a minimum wage, but such a consolation for those who are still puzzled on how to survive the terrible traffic going to Mactan vice versa.
It was noted also that the main target of the trip are the passengers working in Mactan Export Zone (MEZ) and Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), though I assume that it is open to everyone who wish to be relieved from the possible stress (Understatement) caused by the anticipated Mandaue-LapuLapu traffic nightmare .
Lite Shipping also is expected to have two barges prepared to ferry trucks and other smaller vehicles who wish to avoid the possible heavy traffic between Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City.
Will provide updates for the the final rates, number of trips in a day, and total number of vessels Oceanjet will be sending out once I got the data.
